FIRST^® joins more than 500 science organizations this weekend to inspire the next generation of innovators, engineers, scientists and technologists during the USA Science and Engineering Festival in the nation’s capital.

WHY:

Accomplished inventor Dean Kamen founded FIRST ^® (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) – to inspire innovation and an appreciation of science and technology in young people:

More than 250,000 students from 57 countries compete at FIRST events with more than 22,000 custom-built robots;

Students who participate in FIRST programs – FTC and FRC – are eligible for $14 million in college scholarships;

More than 90,000 FIRST volunteers; and

FIRST is supported by a network of more than 3,500 corporations, organizations, educational and professional institutions, and individuals
