U.S. Senator John Kerry Visits Joule Unlimited, Calls Renewable Fuel Platform “Game Changing”

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- U.S. Senator John Kerry today visited the office and laboratories of Joule Unlimited, Inc., calling its technology platform potentially “game changing” in the all-important race to replace fossil fuels. The Senator met with members of Joule’s executive team and toured the site for a first-hand look at Joule’s advances in biology and integrated system design, which together form a platform for renewable fuel production that will eclipse the scale, efficiencies and net energy yield of any known alternative to fossil fuels today.

One of Congress’s strongest proponents for clean energy, Senator Kerry also discussed his support for fast-emerging technologies like Joule’s, which defy existing categories and thus risk exclusion from funding and legislation. While industry and government have largely focused on the use of biomass feedstocks for fuel production, Joule’s process requires no raw material feedstock at all, and has the potential to resolve a host of challenges hindering biomass-derived biofuel production today.

Joule’s Helioculture™ platform converts sunlight and waste CO₂ directly into renewable fuels and chemicals. The company’s novel SolarConverter™ system has been developed to maximize photon-to-fuel conversion efficiency, and features a modular, scalable design for ease of deployment, dependent only on land and waste CO₂ availability. The integrated platform will enable productivities above any other closed-system approach, with a commercial target of 15,000 gallons of diesel per acre annually.

Joule’s pilot operations are currently underway, with commercial production targeted for 2012.
