Plans Are Set for Sarasota Yacht Club 10th Annual Invitational RegattaSARASOTA, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- The Sarasota Yacht Club in partnership with the Sarasota Yacht Club Charitable Foundation will host their 10th Annual Invitational Regatta. The weekend-long event will be held on Friday, November 5th and Saturday, November 6th. More than 40 boats are expected to participate in the 12-mile race in the Gulf, one of the Sarasota Bay Yachting Association Boat-of-the-Year Series races. Sailing aficionado, Tucker Thompson, will be reporting live from the Gulf of Mexico race course.
This year, the Make a Mark Celebration (Invitational Regatta) proceeds will benefit The American Cancer Society, saving lives by helping people stay well and get well finding cures for cancer, the Sarasota Youth Sailing Program (SYSP), where our community’s youth develop strength and confidence while learning to sail and Mote Marine Laboratory, working for a better sea life environment. “We are delighted to support these local worthy causes all while enjoying our passion for boating and the water,” said Lee Goodman, Chairman of the Invitational Regatta. The event schedule follows: Thursday, November 4: Registration for participating boats and Skipper’s meeting will be held at the Sarasota Yacht Club for all PHRF Race participants starting at 6pm. Friday, November 5 beginning at 6pm: Make a Mark Celebration – The public is invited (reservations required) to our festive kick-off event featuring dancing, a silent auction, a special small plates buffet, and the Opti boat race with SYC members, guests and sponsors cheering on. Guests can either race (for a donation of $100) or watch as other willing partiers race around the marks off our docks. Costumes encouraged; no sailing experience necessary, and, paddles are allowed! Sarasota Youth Sailing Program’s young sailors will lend a hand and “judge” the race. Tickets are $50 for the evening events and a portion is tax-deductible. Race Day, Saturday, November 6: (Warning Signal 1:00 pm) featuring the “Ring of Power”. VIPs, cancer survivors and spectators are invited to watch the race and enjoy the hospitality of boat owners throughout the race. Awards Ceremony, Saturday, November 6: Beginning at 6:00 pm the Saturday night event includes dinner and the awards presentation. Awards will be presented for 1st through 3rd place in 7 classes.
