Research and Markets: United Arab Emirates Shipping Report Q1 2011DUBLIN--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Research and Markets (http://www.researchandmarkets.com/research/19bc3b/united_arab_emirat) has announced the addition of the "United Arab Emirates Shipping Report Q1 2011" report to their offering. The United Arab Emirates Shipping Report provides industry professionals and strategists, corporate analysts, shipping associations, government departments and regulatory bodies with independent forecasts and competitive intelligence on the United Arab Emirates' shipping industry.
The report expects the three main shipping sectors -- dry bulk, liquid bulk and containers -- to struggle over the next quarter. Both dry and liquid bulk will have to deal with charter rates pushed lower by a drop in demand an increase in capacity. Container shipping will also not return to its pre-downturn boom period, though BMI note that the sector has a number of strategies in place to help it deal with a projected slow in demand. The analyst expects the liquid bulk market's malaise in H210 to continue into 2011 as weakening demand in the Far East and an oversupply of vessels contrive to exert downward pressure on rates. Having been one of the better performing core shipping sectors in H110, as predicted by BMI the liquid bulk market showed signs of unravelling in the second half of the year as average charter rates for very large crude carriers (VLCCs) fell to a 10-month low in September 2010. With the main markets of China, the US and Europe expected to remain muted over much of 2011, ship owners are likely to be reliant on restricting vessel supply as a means of steadying rates, which, at the time of writing, are hovering around many companies' break-even levels. Projected 9% growth in the global liquid bulk fleet in 2011 is likely to put further downward pressure on rates, and a drop in floating storage, which gave support to the market during last year's downturn, could exacerbate the existing supply-demand imbalance.
