Aug. 27, 2010 09:41 UTC Incheon Political Deputy Mayor Proposes Mutual Assistance Between Maritime Cities in Qingdao Yacht ForumINCHEON, South Korea--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Dong-geun Shin, political deputy mayor of Incheon City, proposed mutual assistance between cities to develop yacht sailing during “the 1st Olympic Yacht Event Mayors & International Yacht Coaches Forum” held in Qingdao, Shandong, China on August 22. Attending on behalf of Incheon City, he delivered a keynote speech with the theme “measures for revitalizing marine leisure sports for the branding of Incheon as a maritime city.” Shin introduced the construction plan for the yachting center for the 2014 Incheon Asian Games and revealed that the establishment of infrastructure for marine leisure sports would be pursued. As the sixth speaker following the Qingdao Mayor, the Kiel Mayor from Germany, the Brest Mayor from France, and the Southampton Mayor from England, he unveiled his ambition to have Incheon branded as a maritime city. In particular, he drew the attention of the participants by emphasizing the need for joint efforts to come up with a win-win strategy through collaboration between international maritime cities. Together with his delegation, Shin visited Qingdao in the afternoon of the 21st; he participated in the opening ceremony of the Qingdao International Yacht Week Event attended by about 1,000 city representatives and yacht people from 26 countries including South Korea, Japan, and Germany on the same day, graced the forum in the morning of the 22nd, and met and encouraged the officers and players from Inchon Yacht Association (president: Ho-seok Lee) staying in the city for the yacht competition in the afternoon of the same day; he spent the final day granting interviews to local TV stations and newspapers and returned to Korea that same day.
